St Andrew's (Barnsbury) CofE Primary School

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PE)

At St Andrew’s, we understand the importance PE, School Sport and Physical Activity has on children’s general health, fitness and mental wellbeing. During our PE lessons, we follow the ‘Beyond the Physical’ scheme. Through this, we focus on ‘The Three I’s’: intent; implementation; impact. We are inclusive and engage all pupils, in a supportive and challenging environment. Our holistic planning and teaching aspires for all children to acquire, develop, and master their fundamental movement skills; to further their knowledge and understanding of Physical Education concepts and principles and develop their overall competence, to enjoy, and excel in, a broad range of physical activities.

In addition to our PE lessons and our Daily Mile participation, we expose the students to a variety of different sports. This includes cricket and skipping workshops, football clubs, bike- and scoot-ability sessions, and a number of trips to sporting grounds in the local area, such as the Emirates Stadium and Lord’s Cricket Ground. Furthermore, we provide opportunities for the students to be coached by experts from organisations such as Middlesex County Cricket Club and Arsenal Football Club, among many more, who run workshops and sessions throughout our school year. Children are also given opportunities to take part in a variety of events run by Islington’s Sports Competitions throughout the year and in Year 5/6 our boys and girls football teams play weekly through the Islington Primary School Football League.
