Phonics

At St Andrew's, we believe every child can be a fluent reader and writer. That's why we use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, a systematic synthetic phonics programme, to teach reading. We start in Reception and follow the programme's progression, ensuring children build on their understanding of the alphabet code, mastering phonics to read and spell confidently as they move through school. So, no matter what unfamiliar words they encounter, our children can decode them with ease.

Implementation

  • Daily phonics lessons in EYFS and Key Stage 1
  • 30 minutes dedicated to phonics each day
  • A strong start in Reception, beginning phonics in Week 1 of the Autumn term
  • We follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised expectations for progress
