St Andrew's (Barnsbury) CofE Primary School

Welcome

WELCOME TO ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL BARNSBURY ISLINGTON

We are a popular one- form entry Church of England voluntary aided primary school situated in the diverse Barnsbury area of Islington.

Our Christian ethos is firmly embedded in all that we do at St. Andrew’s with strong links with the Barnsbury Parish team and the churches of St. Andrew’s, All Saints and the Church on the Corner.

Our values are linked to our school vision and are evident not just visually around the school, but also in terms of how we treat each other and flourish and grow together as a whole school community.

We have a committed Governing Body who challenge our school to be the best it possibly can be.   Our Governors work very hard in supporting the strategic vision of the school and responding to new initiatives and challenges.

We provide a safe, happy and purposeful environment for our children which supports them in their learning right from their first experience of school in Reception all the way though to Y6 and we ensure children are well-prepared for their journey into secondary school – and beyond!

St. Andrew’s is very fortunate to have extensive and well maintained grounds – which is rare for a school in central London! Our playground includes a grassed area as well as gardens and a court with separate outdoor learning provision for Foundation Stage children.

Because of our central location close to King’s Cross we have access to all the opportunities this provides for cultural learning and of course excellent transport links.

We are also acutely aware of the challenges that face people living and working in one of the major capitals of the world with its areas of prosperity and deprivation. We firmly believe that all children – no matter what background they have, have the potential to achieve success.

We believe that children thrive in a caring and intellectually stimulating environment with plenty of praise and encouragement. At St. Andrew’s we aim to help our children to succeed and gain in confidence so that they contribute to society as skilful and well-balanced young people.

At the centre of our school day is our Collective Worship which provides the whole school with time for reflection, praise and prayer. This is integral to the school day and a fundamental part of our journey together.
